One year from today, on 6–7 June 2026, we will gather beside the Tower of London for the next Wolf Hall Weekend—a special event celebrating the life and work of Dame Hilary Mantel.
The event’s theme is “Magnificence”, a concept that lies at the heart of The Mirror and The Light. Through Thomas Cromwell’s final years, Mantel explored magnificence not simply as splendour, but as a reflection of power, ambition, and the human cost of statecraft. These ideas will be explored throughout the weekend in conversation, performance, and exhibition.
Speakers will include Dr Tracy Borman (Writer and Chief Historian at the Historic Royal Palaces), Prof Diarmaid MacCulloch (Emeritus Professor of Church History, Oxford and author of the definitive biography of Thomas Cromwell), and Ben Miles (Actor and playwright), each of whom knew Hilary personally and bring a deep understanding of her work and its historical setting.
A highlight of the weekend will be a rare, live performance of the play adaptation of The Mirror and The Light, introduced by Ben Miles and set just steps from the historical locations at the centre of Cromwell’s story.
We hope you will join us for this thoughtful and wide-ranging tribute to one of the most important writers of our time.
